of course you can't SEE anything, her knee is in the way in that shot. It wouldn't be my fav pic if it featured das boobas. But everyone is quite bare in that scene. mostly under water tho. they coulda been wearing drawers. I HOPE the old Indian chief is wearing something. you get ALMOST full sidal boobity in this shot. members.fortunecity.com/noops032/lynda_carter_topless003.jpgyeah, dey doin' shrooms.

I had some free time, so I gave this a watch. I watched most of it, sort of like how you watch a train wreck. These days it is common knowledge that there is rampant greed and corruption with many church evangelists and tele-vangelists, but I'm sure back in the 70's when this was originally filmed it was probably pretty shocking. I kept watching more out of morbid curiosity about Penticostals than anything else; it definately appears to be an emotion-based religion. The little bits of Marjoe as a 6 year-old preacher were the most attention-grabbing, and quite possibly the most shocking. I had a discussion with a friend a while ago about religion; he was expressing his opinion that I should not teach my children about God, even though I believe in God, because I might be programming my children and not allowing them to develop their own faith. While we didn't agree, I would say that what Marjoe's parents did was wrong and reprehensible; they didn't teach him about God so much as they programmed him to be a puppet for their religion and then profited off the results.

I've watched the documentary so many times over the past 2 yrs and see something new each time. It asks more questions than it answers.
One film critic noticed that not only does Marjoe control his congregations, he mesmerizes the film crew as well.
The BIG question that I come away with: How much of his charisma is the result his oratory training/performance drilling, and how much is a natural shining personality? His parents tried the same routine on his younger brother, but Vernoe couldn't cut the muster and developed stress ulcers, hiding behind the choir when expected to perform.
By the time he was 8 Little Marjoe was supporting his entire family and an entourage. There have always been child stars, and child circus performers, but this little boy was the brains of the outfit by age 10. He was on the road seeing the seediest forms of humanity, with out the extended "family" that circus kids have, or the director/producer/studio/agents that Hollywood kids have.
Many of my friends have notice how grounded and pragmatic Marjoe seems in his narrations. He seems that way to this day. When one career is over, he moves smoothly onto the next, w/ out the DUIs, rehab, bankruptcy, prison, roid rage, or any other various traps child stars seem to fall into when their star is setting.

One film critic noticed that not only does Marjoe control his congregations, he mesmerizes the film crew as well. I don't know if I'd come away with that sort of assessment, the only instance where we see Marjoe interacting with the film crew is during the briefing he does in the hotel room to prepare them before they begin filming at the rallies. While the film crew was definately listening and interacting with Marjoe, I didn't see any behavior that I would have described as "mesmorized". I don't know for sure, but it's possible at an early age Vernoe picked up on the fact that what his parents did through Marjoe was a scam. Regardless, what those parents did to their children wasn't right. I wouldn't think any less of Vernoe for being unwilling to perform in the show at a young age.

While the film crew was definately listening and interacting with Marjoe, I didn't see any behavior that I would have described as "mesmorized". there's the scene where he demonstrates the "slaying" to the girl on the bed - she's part of the crew and the rest are all sitting around staring spellbound. In the first church scene, the guy whose stiff knee is "healed" is the same guy who was instructed to cut his hair in the hotel room scene. The rest of the crew are dressed like pentecostals over on the side. I think the critic is refering to the fact that Marjoe is shown in quite the positive light - the crew never shows him in his pissy private moments, or pitching his famous tantrums. They didn't owe him any particular loyalty to make him come off looking like such a great guy. He was dirt poor at the time of production so he wasn't in charge of the purse strings. They could have edited it to make him look like a big bratty a**hole.

Still, one wonders if it would have been counterproductive to their documentary to show these tantrums you reference; giving a shocking insight into the world of Penticostal evangelists through the eyes of an evangelist that the audience does not sympathize with might lose the audience or cause them to question anything Marjoe claims is true in the documentary. So it would be in their best interest to limit the amount of Marjoe's faults they show in the film. You provided links to some of his TV work, and I loved the irony in one of those clips when he complians to a cop about the Hare Krishna monk outside the store, to which the cop replies, "You got a problem with religion, buddy?"

I loved the irony in one of those clips when he complians to a cop about the Hare Krishna monk outside the store, to which the cop replies, "You got a problem with religion, buddy?" it seems like they ALWAYS work that in to every single role he filmed, wouldn't surprise me if that was an ad-lib by Kennedy. teaching Lynda Carter to shoot in "Bobby Jo" he several times says it's "just like prayin'". and gives a sermon when they have to bury the girlfriend out in the desert. this entire TV pilot is built on that "inside joke". video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2779441828805258122&q=gun+and+the+pulpit%22&total=14&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0I'm pretty sure this is the first time I *ahem* "noticed" Mr Gortner's charm. I remember seeing the original airing of this just by happenstance screen caps but good lord he looks sooooo fine in those brown pants sitting that horse. and he clearly knew how to handle a rifle. He did all his own riding stunts - that opening sequence is NOT for a novice rider in case anyone wasn't aware of the difficulty. The horse is galloping full out over uneven terraine and stumbles several times, but our hero is solid in the saddle, looking back over his shoulder most of the time, an awkward move at a full gallop. (I'd guess he was directed to show that pretty face to the camera as often as possible during the long title sequence.) Strange he holds the reins upside down, must be a childhood habit. The only stand-in I can spot is in the roping scene - guess Marjoe couldn't rope. Or possible they gave him an hour to pull that sign down then had to call in the stuntman.

hard to get a pic of camera shy Marjoe at this moment. Here he is avoiding the camera last Nov. 1.
