I always thought Timothy Dalton was the best Bond,Probably nobody agrees with me though,I hated Roger Moore and in his last bond film he was 58 or 59 which is a bit old to be beating up baddies.

Òh shiiiii! :-) You were talking about Dalton and what did I go and do, but press on Dalton by mistake! What a dumb a**! Nevermind. I never, never liked Roger Moore in ANYTHING he did, EVER. The same, I'm afraid, went for Dalton. I thought he lacked personality, suaveness and charisma but he did come across more as a secret agent would act, if you get me. Not being a Bond fan but I understand none of the screen Bond's hold up to how he was written in the original novels. Artistic license to kill I guess in order to make a more exciting movie. It certainly seemed more a case of how will the new actor play his Bond, rather than how will the actor play the character as it was written? I heard that Bond was actually modelled on Prince Phillip would you believe? In his younger Naval days of course. That classic kind of stern-lipped, chiseled jaw English (well, Phillip ain't English!) Dunkirk spirit, making light out of extreme situations, type gentleman. All apart from the gentleman bit! Sean is Sean Connery playing Sean Connery, not James Bond. He oozed charm in his younger days, had some of the better scripted films, but there is an actor who relied on doing the same thing all the time. I met his son a few times. The old Bonds, enjoyable as they were, just came across as pantomime up until Dalton-Brosnan. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Sometimes the sheer aburdity cried out for a parody, and it took years before Mike Myers "Austin Powers" creation did it so well. Pierce Brosnan, for me, was the best of the Bonds to date. Daniel Craig has suprised me though. I like the cold, raspy, and no nonsense approach. Shame he is so FUGLY! LoL (sorry, that's my word of the week I'm afraid. I've tried to use it wherever possible!)

Hey Dan,
I fixed it for you, I voted "Pierce Brosnan". Because, actually, I was going to vote for Timothy Daulton. So it all evens out.
Why Tim? Well, a big part of it is the first Bond movie I ever saw was The Living Daylights. You only get one first impression.
Watching the old Bond movies, I honestly don't think Sean Connery was really Bond personified. He was just fun to watch, that's all. I don't remember seeing any of the Bond films with George Lazenby, so I can't judge his Bond-ness. I did think Roger Moore played a really good Bond, but he just never looked like a Bond to me...he looked more like the Malbaro Man. I think Pierce should have been Bond in the 80's, however he was playing Remmington Steele at the time. The only reason I don't pick him over Timothy is because of how embarrassingly bad his first Bond film was (I mean, come on, the Bond girl is named "Christmas"? Seriously, Pierce must have realized what an embarrassment he was making of himself with that final line of the movie, "I though Christmas only comes once a year." Yack!) And I haven't seen Casino Royale yet, so I don't know what to think of Daniel Craig, however I can't say a blonde Bond sits well with me.
So what was good about Timothy? Well, he was dark, brooding, and didn't come off corny like some of the other Bonds did.

Ah, you're a good boy Scott! :-)
I guess it is sometimes down to who you grew up with or were first introduced to. Not always the case though. I didn't like Lazenby or Niven, but they only had one film to prove themselves. I agree with Ducati. Moore was too old.
I didn't think Brosnan's first outing was <that>bad. Yes, Christmas is a corney name for a girl, but all the girls had double-entendre names - Plenty, P*ssy Galore! It's sillyness, it's terribly misogenistic but it's in the spirit of Bond tradition which they kept in even though the films have become more sophisticated. It's why I don't like Bond especially, but it reflected the time in which the novels were written. I think they would be less entertaining movies without the stereotypes.

Roger Moore is the best, but I liked 'em all.
I think The Spy Who Loved Me was my first Bond. And when you start with something that spectacular, the other movies (apart from Moonraker) pale in comparison.
I'm a big fan of Moore's stiff upper lip persona and sometimes I feel he is only a step from Richard Burton in looks and ability.
If you think that Moore is all smarm and eyebrows, check him out in "The Man Who Haunted Himself"...then sit...then swivel!
Also, I think Moore showed the most versatility as Bond. Mostly he played it for laughs but it was quite a shock and quite convincing when he turned nasty (For Your Eyes Only/Man With The Golden Gun).
Also, in Moore's movies, there was a genuine feeling of glamour and extravagance. Watching Moonraker the other day, Rio looks like a far off, almost unreachable, exotic place, compared to modern Bonds where the locations look muted and less thrilling.
He was too old in View To A Kill but he only came back due to popular demand. And it wasn't that bad. Tanya Roberts was hot in it and Christopher Walken is always good for a laugh!
I saw it twice when it came out and it wasn't apparant that Moore was particularly old in it at the time. Only viewing it as an adult made me realise it.

There are people who agree with me about Timothy Dalton being the best bond,I would never have guessed,An interesting trivia fact about Dalton is that before playing the James Bond part he read every single Bond book to get into character and I regard his two films as the only real James Bond films they are much grittier and (more)down to earth and I think the other films are only Glamorised up to get viewers into the cinema. As a matter of interest(and little importance)Did any other Bonds wear Dubarry's?

... is that before playing the James Bond part he read every single Bond book to get into character ... Yes, I have those same picture books too ... ;D Cheap shot. Sorry! ... Did any other Bonds wear Dubarry's? Had to look up what a dubarry was! Moccasins I call them! Yes, probably Dalton was the only one. I remember I had a pair in the 90's in a vain effort to be "cool." I think Stef will like these as he likes the "geek" look! ;D Sorry Stef ... Have you got one of those blazers like Norman yet???

Never a big fan of moccasins. Always thought they looked like pasties.
I did buy a jacket recently, similar in style but it's black moleskin from Peathingys. Fits very well actually!

I see your turning into a bit of a rebel there Penty,"this thing filters everything" I agree but I dont think they(The filter people) can do anything when we do something like this e.g F**K. "MERRY FESTIVUS FOR THE REST OF US" And yes it is a real holiday www.festivusbook.com/

Hey now, ducati, I don't appreciate you calling me a fink. That's just not nice. I know, I know...it's childish to play with the language filter. I just thought it was funny how it turned Stef's use of "peac*ck" into "peathingy".

I'd like to see someone list out all the standard swear words and see how the filter "translates" each of them. I'd also like to see if some of the English/British/Irish curse words are filtered as well.
I know if any of you have a c*ckney accent, it won't appreciate that very much (or at least not that word).

Since the filter thing filters bad words a word that it doesnt filter couldnt be regarded as bad, could it? Norman wears Dubes as well just watching Hot Target and when he bends down to put whats her face(what is her name again)under the van he is wearing "Dubes"
